Pakistan cannot be left at mercy of Zardari, Nawaz: Fawad

Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said on Wednesday the 250 million people of Pakistan cannot be left at the mercy of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Democratic Alliance (PDM). Addressing a press conference along with former PTI leaders Maulvi Mahmood and Imran Ismail outside Adiala Jail, Fawad said that they will not allow the PDM government to freely operate, adding that it was their responsibility to get innocent arrested PTI workers released. Under the circumstances, he said, the PDM government cannot be left unopposed. “We are still standing with our principles and ready to play a role for the betterment of the country,” he added. Fawad stated that discussions and negotiations have been conducted with the former PTI leadership regarding the present situation and matter at hand. All leaders are determined to street the country out of these problems and make a stable Pakistan, and we hope to succeed in it.” Fawad said that they will continue efforts for political stability in the country. “The sole responsibility for the current political and economic crisis lies with the PDM. Now Pakistan has to move towards a permanent and stable solution, for which Shah Mahmood Qureshi is also ready to play a role,” he added. “We have had good discussions with all our former colleagues, and we hope that a good solution will emerge.” Also read: In another major blow, Fawad Chaudhry parts ways with PTI The former information minister said that what happened on May 9 should not have happened, but after that, many innocent people have also been arrested and put in jails. “It is our responsibility to get them released and we will fulfil it,” he said. Violent protests broke out across the country after the PTI chief Imran Khan was taken into custody by paramilitary Rangers on the orders of the National Accountability Bureau from the Islamabad High Court premises in the National Crime Agency £190 million scandal on May 9. Rioters vandalised civilian infrastructure and military installations and even attacked the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, and Lahore corps commander’s residence, also known as Jinnah House. In the aftermath of widespread rioting and protests following Khan’s arrest, several party leaders including Fawad Chaudhry, Asad Umar, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr Yasmeen Rashid, Shireen Mazari, Maleeka Bukhari, and Fayyazul Hassan Chauhan were taken into custody. Many prominent PTI leaders including Fawad Chaudhry, Imran Ismail, Shireen Mazari, Fayyazul Hassan Chauhan, Firdaus Ashiq Awan and others have quit PTI.
