Afghan intelligence accused of orchestrating disinformation campaign against Pakistan

The Afghan Taliban regime’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) has allegedly launched a coordinated disinformation campaign to malign Pakistan by coercing Afghan nationals into recording false video confessions, sources revealed on Wednesday. The sources said the GDI was recording statements from detained Afghan nationals who were allegedly being forced to claim links with the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) and various anti-Taliban resistance movements. The detainees were reportedly being coerced into confessions that they had received combat training at covert bases inside Pakistan to carry out attacks against the Taliban regime. According to sources, the alleged campaign is aimed at deflecting mounting international pressure on the Afghan interim administration over its failure to address the presence of terrorist sanctuaries within Afghanistan. Analysts say the alleged strategy seeks to exploit regional security concerns, particularly Russia’s apprehensions over the growing threat posed by ISKP. By portraying Pakistan as a source of the terrorist threat, the Afghan administration is allegedly seeking to deflect scrutiny of its own counter-terrorism efforts and its commitments to the international community.
